ABOUT OUR LOCAL UNA CHAPTER

The United States supports the United Nations because we think it’s an investment in our own security,
and we think it’s a necessary venue for us to discuss differences and try to hammer out compromises with other countries.”
~ Secretary of State Hillary Clinton,
speaking at the 2009 UNA-NCA Model UN Conference

Welcome to the official website for the United Nations Association of Northern Colorado.  Our members and friends in Northern Colorado work to build public knowledge, strengthen UN-US relations, and aid the UN in achieving its goals. There are UNAs all around the world.

  • Advocacy: We write to and meet with members of Congress and their staff to urge them to support the United Nations in general and to vote for issues we are currently supporting such as:
    • Implementing the Millennium Development Goals
    • Climate Change
    • UN Population Fund
    • Payment of UN Dues

We write letters to the editor about various current UN related issues.  We keep the public aware of important dates such as UN Day and Human Rights Day.

  • Education: Our active education committee works:
    • To sponsor essay contests at middle school, high school and college levels
    • Sponsor an annual art contest at the grade school level
      • Monetary awards are given to the winners of these contests
    • Assure that the various libraries in the area have up-to-date books about the UN
    • Assist the Model UN program at the local high school
  • Program
    • We host speakers at monthly public meetings.
    • Annually we honor an International Humanitarian with an award
    • We provide speakers for other events upon request
